The American Heart Association Instructor Course is a three part course:

Part One, the AHA Instructor Essentials course is completed online at home or work. The course contains information on planning and preparation for courses, teaching courses, conducting written exams, skills practice and skills testing, and keeping your instructor status current. Upon successful completion, a completion certificate is generated and needs to be printed out and brought to class for your instructor record.  The Instructor Essentials course takes between 3-6 hours to complete.

Part Two will be held at CPR Cindy in Ontario, California.  Day two will cover information such as course organization, policies of both the AHA and CPR Cindy, card processing, administration of a course, advertising, equipment cleaning, changes in CPR and why they occur, skills testing, a written test and more. This portion will take approximately 3-4 hours.

Part Three involves being monitored teaching your first class.  This can be done during one of CPR Cindy's many courses, or you can be evaluated at your own facility (depending on location.)  This evaluation must be done within three months after completion of Part 2.

In addition to the steps above, all participants must posses a valid/current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification card that has been completed under the new science which began February 2015, and the participant must be at least 16 years of age.  Once all steps are successfully completed, the participant will become an American Heart Association BLS  or Heartsaver Instructor and able to conduct classes on their own.

Additional Information

  • Registration and payment for Instructor Courses MUST be received prior to class.  Register early; classes fill-up quickly. Class confirmation, directions, and Instructor Essentials are sent by email.  Because the Instructor Courses cover a lot of material in a relatively short time, advanced preparation is required.  Instructor Essentials Course must be completed prior to class.
  • Materials may be picked up the day of class, or they can be mailed to you for an additional fee of $6.00.  Materials must be brought to the class.  If you are a renewing instructor or a transfer instructor, materials are required per the AHA.  If you do not have them, they must be purchased ahead of time and brought to class with you.
  • Instructors wishing to transfer to CPR Cindy from another Training Site must complete a transfer form. Existing BLS Instructors will be required to take the Instructor Renewal Course before alignment occurs.
  • Manikins and other equipment is required in order for you to teach classes at your facility.  These requirements are covered in class and can be obtained through CPR Cindy as well.
