The American Heart Association's ACLS course has been updated to reflect the new science following the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.  This course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous high-quality CPR.  This advanced video-led course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmias, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes.

HeartCode ACLS is the AHA's blended learning delivery method for the AHA's ACLS course.  Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on session.

HeartCode ACLS is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program that uses eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings.  Enter the course, and students will then be presented with a team dynamics lesson and 10 in-hospital patient cases, including a BLS case and 2 Megacode cases.  The cases may be repeated as many times as necessary to pass.  Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students will take a 50-question multiple choice exam and must pass with a minimum score of 84%.  There are a variety of additional videos as well as the ACLS Provider Manual and the 2020 Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care to enhance learning and facilitate successful completion of the patient cases.

The ACLS course covers
  • Systemic approach
  • Science of resuscitation
  • High-quality BLS
  • Airway management
  • Acute coronary syndromes
  • Stroke
  • Team dynamics
  • Two Megacodes
  • IO
  • Four algorithms
  • BLS case
  • Seven cardiovascular, respiraoty, and stroke cases
  • Summary of critical concepts provided for each eSimulation case
  • Virtual debriefings provided immediately after each eSimulation
  • Provides online access to the ACLS Provider Manual and the 2020 Handbook of ECC
  • Multiple choice, 50-question exam to test cognitive knowledge
  • Certificate of completion available after the modules, exam, and course evaluation have been completed successfully
  • Students may access all information included in HeartCode ACLS for 24 months following activation of course

Intended audience for this course
This course is designed for healthcare professionals who direct or manage cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies; personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units; physicians, nurses, and paramedics; and others who need an ACLS course completion card for job or other requirements.  The course is 2 CE units.  We do not offer CE's here, but you can present your certification to your training coordinator for credit.

After successfully completing the ACLS course, students should be able to
  • Apply the BLS, Primary, and Secondary assessments sequence for a systematic evaltuion of adult patients
  • Perform prompt, high-quality BLS including prioritizing early chest compressions and integrating early AED use
  • Recognize and perform early management of respiratory arrest
  • Discuss early recognition and management of acute coronary syndrome and stroke, including appropriate disposition
  • Recognize and perform early management of bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome
  • Recognize and perform early management of cardiac arrest until termination of resuscitation or transfer of care, including immediate post-cardiac arrest care

  • ACLS Skills Only:  If you have purchased the online HeartCode key on your own and you just need to have skills testing performed, this is the option you need.  This is an in-person option.
  • ACLS HeartCode Course & Skill Session:  If you are looking to take the ACLS Blended course online and have not purchased the key, this package includes the key and the skills testing combined.  No other payment will be needed.  Once you complete your eLearning training and have printed out your certificate of completion with a minimum score of an 84%, contact us to set up a skills session
  • ACLS HeartCode and BLS Combined Course:  It's always nice to only have to go to a training once every two years rather than your certifications expiring at different times.  Why not take care of your ACLS HeartCode online and get your BLS certification at the same time?  This course will have you walking out the door with two certifications.  ACLS is completed online, and BLS is taken care of completely in person
  • ACLS HeartCode, PALS Heartcode, and BLS Package:  If you thought two certifications at one time was good, wait until you can get all three certifications knocked out at once.  Woo wee!  This is our golden package which includes ACLS Heartcode competed online, PALS HeartCode completed online, and BLS completed in person.  You'll need a dolly to carry all of these items out the door
  • We also now have FULLY ONLINE courses for ACLS, PALS, and BLS (BLS is for renewals only).  See the light yellow squares below for additional information.  Why come to class when you can do everything in the convenience of your own home???
